The other week I ventured to the west coast to visit a dear friend in San Francisco. We had our sights set on spending the weekend in Napa and when the topic of a vineyard visit came up I was eager to head to Scribe Winery in Sonoma. I had been there years ago but it was during the winter and I knew a summer experience would be very different.
Founded in 2007 on a property that pioneered pre-prohibition Sonoma Valley winemaking, Scribe Winery is managed by fourth-generation California farmers and brothers, Andrew and Adam Mariani. The 19th century Hacienda on the property is a great study in indoor and outdoor design thanks to a renovation in partnership with Aidlin Darling Design. According to the firm’s website, “the project involved the careful uncovering and preservation of the Hacienda’s many historic layers, while introducing distinctly new elements — creating a dynamic dialogue between past and present. The reincarnated structure serves as Scribe’s hospitality center, with wine tasting areas, a full-service kitchen, and accommodations for visiting chefs.”
Since it’s debut in 2017, the Hacienda has been regarded as a well-designed space for wine and interior lovers alike to congregate. Stunning views, comfortable seating and their incredible offering of wine and food will keep you satiated for hours. After an afternoon spent imbibing on the property, I left not only with a slight buzz but some new design ideas.
