My friends know that I’m always on board with anything that pulls double duty. A few years ago, I found a purse that could be worn four different ways—I was immediately sold. To this day it is probably the most-used and most-complimented piece in my wardrobe. While fashion might offer more obvious multi-use options, the same practicality can absolutely apply at home.

Case in point: the ottoman coffee table. It’s the perfect example of form meeting function. Not only does it serve as a soft, comfortable place to rest your feet, but it also doubles as a stylish coffee table. Add a few books and some flowers and it becomes both functional and visually pulled together.

A few months ago, I landed on this as the solution for my living room. The space is fairly narrow so I needed something that would cross off all my needs in one. At first, I was set on sourcing something vintage and reupholstering it—my usual route, since I love finding pieces with history and character. But after months of hunting and not quite landing on the right fit, I realized I needed to expand my search.
